Applying Operational Experience to Healthcare Product Innovation
As a Founding Partner at Spirit Works AI, Donna Lightfoot helps transform complex healthcare administrative problems into proposed workflows, product requirements, market strategy, and measurable business cases.
Spirit Works AI is currently in the discovery and product-design phase. The product has not yet launched, and all platform functionality described on this page represents proposed concepts, research direction, or potential future capabilities.
Closing the Ownership Gaps Inside Healthcare Administration
Healthcare administrative workflows frequently cross front-office teams, clinical staff, prior authorization specialists, physicians, revenue cycle teams, payers, and external partners. Each group may complete its assigned task while no one has complete visibility into whether the patient, operational, and financial outcome was achieved.
Spirit Works AI is exploring how AI-assisted operational intelligence could help healthcare organizations identify incoming work, extract relevant information, detect missing documentation, assign ownership, support human review, and improve visibility into how work moves through complex administrative workflows.
The initial research is focused on document-intensive healthcare intake and administrative workflows. Longer-term concepts may include policy intelligence, prior authorization support, appeals, workflow analytics, and broader operational intelligence. These are future product directions and are not current production capabilities.
What Founding Partner Means in Practice
Donna's contribution is not limited to marketing a predefined product. She helps define the problem, validate who experiences it, map how work currently moves, identify where accountability breaks down, determine what the product should and should not do, and translate those findings into a credible product and market strategy.
Built From Operational Reality
Spirit Works AI brings together the different sides of Donna's career: healthcare operations, workforce management, contact center transformation, competitive intelligence, product marketing, and AI strategy.
Her healthcare experience helps her understand regulated workflows and the operational consequences of delays, missing documentation, fragmented handoffs, and repeated work. Her workforce background helps her quantify the labor and capacity consumed by those failures. Her product marketing and competitive intelligence experience helps turn operational problems into market requirements, product positioning, buyer value, competitive differentiation, and a practical go-to-market strategy.
This work is also a real-world application of The Ownership Gap™: beginning with the outcome that must be achieved and then designing the data, workflow, intelligence, ownership, and measurement needed to support it.
| Donna's Experience | Application at Spirit Works AI |
|---|---|
| Healthcare operations | Understand regulated workflows, administrative friction, patient access, and cross-functional handoffs |
| Workforce management | Quantify workload, capacity, rework, staffing implications, and failure demand |
| Product marketing | Translate operational problems into value propositions, buyer messaging, positioning, and go-to-market strategy |
| Competitive intelligence | Evaluate market alternatives, competitor capabilities, whitespace, pricing, and differentiation |
| Contact center operations | Design ownership, routing, queues, escalation paths, and human-review workflows |
| AI and CX strategy | Evaluate where AI can support decisions and reduce friction without automating broken processes |
| The Ownership Gap™ | Design around accountable outcomes instead of isolated tasks and departmental metrics |
What the Team Is Working On Now
The current work centers on discovery, validation, and product design — not production deployment.
- 1Understand existing healthcare administrative workflows.
- 2Collect representative workflow and document examples where appropriately authorized and protected.
- 3Identify missing-information patterns, handoffs, queues, decision points, rework, and accountability gaps.
- 4Translate findings into proposed product requirements, workflow logic, human-review needs, and technical priorities.
- 5Validate the operational value, implementation requirements, pricing model, and business case with potential design partners.
Clearly separating what exists from what's being explored.

Help Inform the Product
Donna and the Spirit Works AI team are interested in speaking with professionals who understand how healthcare administrative work actually happens — including where information is lost, work is repeated, responsibility becomes unclear, or patient access is delayed.
